WHAT WAS THE LEADING CAUSE OF BRUCE LEE'S DEATH? (50 YEARS LATER)

Was there foul play involved in Bruce Lee's death? Poisoning Bruce Lee at this time in his life would not have been that easy since he was constantly watching his back. According to Linda Lee , during her husband’s final months of his life, he had stopped eating solid food and was existing miserably on carrot and apple juice. If this is true, then the only way to have poisoned Bruce Lee was to lace the one thing everyone knew he was eating—his marijuana/hashish which was his drug of choice.

The real cause of death based on circumstantial and medical evidence refuting the wild theories concerning Bruce Lee's demise.

Part I

Bruce died from multi-factorial causes. His doctors knew what almost killed him on May 10th, 1973. He even presented it to his personal physician Dr. Langford, the next day, when Dr. Langford came in and interrogated him at the hospital, after saving his life. He wanted to know if Bruce was taking any drugs. There was no other explanation. He  BRUCE LEE pulled out a stash of Nepal hashish and  Dr. Langford told him if he started taking this again, it would kill him. He rejected Langford's medical advice and flew to UCLA and was clean. They found nothing wrong with him, because there were no drugs in his system. This gave him a false sense of security and a few weeks before he died, he was ingesting it again. This type of hashish he got was from Katmandu, Nepal. It's one of the most near-lethal strains of *unrefined* hashish and is much more rarer than the refined types manufactured in the Middle East.

It's been documented to kill it's users the exact same way it killed Bruce on July 20th, 1973. It's neurological side effects are nightmarish, and contains over 400 chemical compounds, any one of which, his central nervous system could build up a sensitivity to, and so highly toxic, cerebral edema, kidney/ adrenal failure, vomiting, convulsions, cardiac arrest/coma and death is the result. On May 10th, 1973 he ate some in the bathroom and then collapsed on the floor at Golden Harvest Studio, regained consciousness and then collapsed again, and went into convulsions and seizures and was throwing up, then went comatose. Dr. Langford was very concerned about Bruce having no body fat left, as this will only worsen side effects of drugs in his system. There is no fat to help absorb it, and he also had his sweat glands removed later in 1972. Removal will also cause brain edema, because the saline that carries toxins, builds up in the body and bloodstream. The fluid buildup is pumped from the heart into the brain, resulting in cerebral edema and kidney failure, convulsions and, coma and death. When Bruce left the hospital on May 10th, Dr. Langford was sure he would be back.

He was one of the top two doctors in the Orient and is still alive today. He was right; 10 weeks later, he died. No one killed Bruce--he killed himself with drugs. The doctors were surprised he lasted til July 20th. There were no marks on his body, just heavy swelling from the edema and some bruises on his left temple, running up the brow ridge. While in Betty's bedroom on July 20th, the seizures from the reaction jerked him off her bed, and the left side of his head was hit. They are too small to be the result of a fatal blow with a weapon. Bruising is common with violent body seizures. The inquest was a sham. Two UK doctors flew in to overturn Bruce's doctor's cause of death, and blamed it on a pain pill (Equagesic which he had been taking for years ). It was also done for insurance reasons and payouts, since Bruce lied on his insurance application that he didn't use illegal drugs and if he did--he would be subject to payouts to certain parties. By the way this can be construed as committing an act of insurance fraud. The government in Hong Kong was behind this coverup. They didn't want a hashish epidemic on their hands, with all the young kids who worshiped Lee and wanted to be just like him. The night of July 20th, he ingested the hashish in Betty's apartment, than complained of a mind-numbing and constricting headache ( this is a side-effect ), and she gave him the pain pill, Equagesic, to counter the headache. Betty Ting Pei wrote a book On 20 July 2015,  the 42nd anniversary of Bruce Lee's death, The Best Time With Bruce Lee, the biography of Ting's relationship with Bruce Lee which was published by the Beijing Times Chinese Press. exposing everything.

The best time with Bruce Lee " by Betty Ting Pei - Eastern Heroes

Bruce's weight in 1972 was 146, as he stated in a phone-taped interview with Alex Ben Block, who called him while he was making Way Of The Dragon in the summer of 1972. He looks about the same weight in the filmed footage Game Of Death some 3 months later in Sep-Oct the same year. Healthy weight. When he arrived in HK in 1970, he was 155, and weight training trimmed him down. In 1973, while making Enter The Dragon, he was about 135 pounds and underweight. By May, he was down to 126, some 20 pounds. I've seen a few photos of Bruce shortly before his death and he looks frail and sickly. The robustness from his face is gone. Dr. Langford said he looked obscene, with only 1% of body fat on him. It's easy to tell Bruce in his last few months--June and July. He's so thin and has a new and fuller hairstyle he never wore while in HK(see photo below). There's a B&W group photo on a gallery on a website, with Bruce, Betty and co-stars and his appearance is identical to the July 10th TV appearance he made in 1973. Time frame is approximate.

The hashish he was taking was very bad for him, no doubt. Why would Dr. Langford tell him NOT to take anymore if it was GOOD for him. That is what was in his bloodstream on May 10th. Lee was no expert on drugs and formally was anti-drug. He had cortisone injections for the back injury he sustained in 1969 up until he died. This mixes in more drugs in his body and with literally no body fat left, sweat glands removed, making a hypersensitive reaction and death even more positive. Tom Bleeker's  UNSETTLED MATTERS book has drawn heavy fire and I don't think it's all in rational proportion, and yes, some things are true. I'm not scorning it, but I doubt if everything stated is altogether true. Sure, if he wants to theorize, that's fine, about Bruce's death being foul-play. It's common. The only people who would know more would be several of his co-workers and friends who were with him the last 12 months of his life.  The murder scenario is too easy to fabricate, and there are no hard facts such as direct, circumstantial or forensic medical evidence to back it up. People claim "I know who it was and what happened". They want to take the credit and 15 minutes of fame. If they wanted him killed, I mean really, arranging an accident is the best way on the street. The focus is exploring Bruce Lee's  body chemistry, what he took, knowledge of drugs he took, his health in general, from his peak to his decline. He was a sensitive and high-strung guy and had to cope with fame. Taking drugs is common with this.

Ask me to prove it? The proof is there, and much more clearer than it was 48 years ago. The point is not fighting about it. Assemble everything you know and put it together and you're not going to draw a blank.

Dear Viewer: Over the decades there have been some wild speculations/theories as to what actually caused Bruce Lee to die from cerebral edema. His personal physician Dr. Donald Lanford and Dr. Peter Wu who saved his life on May 20th, 1973 both concluded that it was drug related. Bruce Lee was a full blown drug addict(see link below). Cerebral Edema can erupt in the brain by those who are addicted to drugs(see article below). Also watch the video below. This is an interview that was conducted in 1993 with one of Bruce Lee's best friend Charles Lowe assistant Director to Enter The Dragon.  Bruce Lee confided to his friend that he had a brain tumor, and when they were done finishing the movie Enter The Dragon, he was planning to come to America to be operated on. As we all know, he never lived to see that day.

Tumors: A brain tumor is an abnormal growth of cells inside the brain or skull. It can compress or displace brain tissue or block cerebro spinal fluid, which can increase pressure and cause swelling resulting in cerebral edema. Also it is plausible that his extensive use of steroids was also a contributing factor which resulted in brain edema. See video below for more details:

Abstract

Background/aim: The effect of drugs leaves permanent consequences on the brain, organic in type, followed by numerous manifestations, and it significantly affects the development of mental dysfunctions. The clinicians are often given a task to estimate a patient's personality during treatment or during experts estimate of a drug addict. The aim of this research was to determine the differences, if any, in characteristics of addicts experience and personality traits in drug addicts with or without cerebral edema.

Methods: The research was conducted on a sample of 252 male drug addicts, the average age of 23.3 (SD = 4.3) years. Cerebral edema was confirmed on magnetic resonance (MR) images of the brain performed during the treatment of the addicts. The participants were tested by the psychologists using Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI-201) test, and the data were processed using canonical discriminate analysis within the SPSS program. The dependent variable in the study was cerebral edema. A block of independent variables, designed for the requirements of this study, consisted of two subgroups. The first one consisted of 12 variables describing the relevant characteristics of drug abuse. The second subgroup consisted of 8 psychopathological tendencies in the personality defined by the mentioned test.

Results: Cerebral edema was confirmed in 52 (20.63%) of the drug addicts. The differences between the groups of drug addicts with and without cerebral edema were determined in the following: the time span of taking drugs (0.301), use of alcohol parallel with drugs (0.466), and treatment for addiction (0.603). In the drug addicts with a cerebral edema, MMPI-201 confirmed the increase in the scales for hypochondria, psychopathic deviations and psychastenia, and the decrease in the scales for schizophrenia and depression.

Conclusion: Our study confirmed a possible connection between cerebral edema and personality traits in a number of the examined drug addicts. Considering the fact that practice often requires personality estimation, regardless whether it is about treatment or expert's estimate, it is necessary to further research in this direction.

Part III

The following are some quotations from an excellent book written by Mathew Polly; Bruce Lee a Life:

1) On May 10th, 1973 while Bruce Lee was in the dubbing room of Golden Harvest Studio, he went to the men's room. He began to feel faint and his head began to hurt. While in the bathroom stalls, he pulled out a bag of Napalese hashish and ate some of it. This led to his first collapse and near death experience (pages 425-426).

Note: There is absolutely no medical evidence to support  Mr. Lee taking an Equagesic pill or other prescription medication during this first collapse. No correlation whatsoever can be made. The cerebral edema was not caused by a hypersensitivity to the aspirin in the drug Equagesic, a painkiller formed of meprobamate and aspirin. I CHALLENGE ANYONE OUT THERE TO PROVE ME WRONG.

In the 3rd video from the top of this page titled "Death by Misadventure", between time frames 6-8 minutes, Dr. Peter Wu obtained a sample from Bruce Lee's vomit. The lab results were that he had ingested hashish and nothing more! No Equagesic medication was detected in his vomit.

2) On May 13th Dr. Peter Wu met with Bruce Lee in order to determine what was the cause of his cerebral edema. Bruce admitted that he had ingested hashish immediately before his first collapse. Dr. Wu advised Mr. Lee not to eat hashish again because he had already experienced an allergic reaction to the drug and the effects are likely to be worse the next time.   Instead of heeding Dr. Wu's warning, Bruce Lee scoffed at the good doctor. Mr. Lee told the doctor "Steve McQueen introduced me to it and he would not take it if there was  anything harmful about it. Dr. Wu asked Bruce Lee if Steve McQueen was a medical authority?

Dr. Wu advised Mr. Lee that he wanted to perform an angiogram on Bruce Lee's brain. But Mr. Lee refused to undergo this exam and demanded instead to be discharged (pages 427-428).

3) On July 10th, 1973, Bruce Lee was in his office at Golden Harvest Studios getting high like hell on hashish again! (page 434).

4) On July 20th, 1973 Bruce Lee was at his mistress apartment Betty Ting Pei. After they both ingested hashish, they both got laid by playing the Game of Sex(see above video 2nd from the top page for all the details and what happened. It ultimately resulted in the real Game of Death.)

5) On July 23rd, 1973 Dr. R.R. Lycette performed the autopsy. He found no evidence of foul play. The body's scalp was free from bruising and the skull was free from signs of injury or fractures recent or old. Dr. Lycette strongly believed that the brain edema was the result of some drug intoxication. The basis which led to his conclusion was the small quantity of the Equagesic pill and small traces of hashish found in Mr. Lee's stomach.

Suspecting that hashish was the leading cause, Dr. Lycette met with Doctors Donald Langford and  Peter Wu who were already convinced that Bruce Lee's first collapse was due to hashish as the leading cause of death.

Later Dr. Lycette wrote in a letter the following: " I believe the most likely cause of death for Bruce Lee is cannabis intoxication either due to drug idiosyncrasy or massive overdose"(page 449).

6) The whole inquest was nothing but a BIG sham before it even got started. Mr. Mathew Polly covers this  thoroughly from Chapter 25  (pages 453-475). The evidence which he shares is very extensive for me to get into all the details here. However, I will say this; it was a massive coverup. Perjury was committed under oath in order to conceal the truth from the world. Some medical statements made by expert witnesses were nothing more than an elaborate fabrication. AS WELL AS OTHER WITNESSES WHO TOOK THE STAND.

As Mr. Mathew Polly stated on pages 455-467:

" In calling for an inquest, the British government's goal was not to find the explanation for Bruce Lee's death but to provide an explanation-something palatable, preferably not scandalous, that would placate the masses".

"British officials didn't care why some Chinese Kung Fu actor had died; they cared more about quelling the civil unrest and maintaining control. To achieve their objective, the government needed to give the appearance of openness and thoroughness while quietly manipulating the outcome behind the scenes. The government's solution was to bring in a world-famous pathologist from London, Professor Donald Teare. Teare was a Professor of forensic medicine at the University of London and a guest lecturer at the Metropolitan Police(Scotland Yard) Academy. Bruce Lee's case was perfect for the limelight seeking professor, who gravitated toward high profile celebrity death.

As with all the other experts, Professor Teare began with his BOGUS CREDENTIALS. "I have specialized in forensic medicine for the last 35 years. During that time I have performed about 90,000 post-mortems and given evidence in 18,000 inquests"(REALLY)? Those were incredible numbers , which the Hong Kong newspapers reported as fact without doing the math. In order to achieve what he claimed, Professor Teare would have had to perform 7 autopsies and testify in 1.5 inquests everyday, 7 days a week, 365 days out of the year for 35 years without taking a day off for weekends, holidays or vacations! (pages 469-470).

After reviewing the coroner's findings and studying the evidence, Mr. Teare privately called in the other medical expert witnesses for a meeting. Professor Teare, Dr. Peter Wu, Dr. Lycette and Dr. Langford met at the upper floors of Queen Elizabeth Hospital said Dr. Langford. It was not exactly a dress rehearsal for the trial, but it was a chance for Dr. Teare to caution us about how Hong Kong was on the spot and how we were not considered to be a world forensic pathology center, that there had been no studies confirming the possibility of death from cannabis, and that they must not do anything to put the local medical community on the spot. We were not asked to perjure ourselves, but we were cautioned that the whole world would be watching. At the time Dr. Langford viewed this meeting as tampering with expert medical witnesses.

Having read the testimony and looked at the evidence, Professor Teare developed an alternative hypothesis as to the cause of death. One that had been mentioned earlier once at the beginning of the Inquest by Dr. Chu but never brought up again- HYPERSENSITIVITY TO EQUAGESIC.

Professor Teare attempted to sway the 3 doctors to accept his theory. He failed with the America doctor as well as the Chinese doctors but succeeded with the New Zealand coroner" end of quote.

So what was the outcome of all this? Linda Lee under perjury of law denied that she had any knowledge that her husband Mr. Lee was involved with cannabis(not to mention that they both were involved in getting drugs shipped to them from Robert Baker overseas see link below) prior to Bruce Lee signing two life insurance policies worth approximately $2 millions.

"On March or April 1973, " Linda Lee claimed, selecting a month right after the life insurance application was submitted on February 1, 1973, " I was first aware that he took cannabis occasionally. In fact it was on that occasion that he told me he started taking cannabis" end of quote (page 462). However  while Bruce Lee was filming Enter the Dragon in Hong Kong in 1973, his wife Linda wrote on his behalf to apparently request drugs from his drug supplier Robert Baker.

The entire Inquest was all rigged. Linda Lee collected her $2million. Her attorney cashed in big time. The Movie Enter the Dragon grossed about $350 million dollars over the next 45 years after Bruce Lee's death. It is estimated that his estate's net worth is about 12 million dollars as of 2021. And the rest is history.
