Many false prophets claim to have received messages and / or visions from God that are to be kept secret from other people, sometimes until a specified time.
Beware of this as it actually elevates the false prophet since it makes him / her special, with privy to “secret” information. This is not the way of God.
I can think of only one place in the Bible where something like this occurred. In Revelation 10:1-4 John is told by an angel to not reveal that which the seven peals of thunder had spoken. It is obvious from the scriptures that this was done not to elevate John, but for purposes that only God knows. In addition, this account occurs in the Bible, which we know to be the inspired Word of God.
In addition to secrets, there are those who include mysteries in their prophecies. These take the form of mysterious words, phrases, connotations, numerical puzzles, and riddles that leave the reader either mystified or confused.
Again, this brings elevation to the false prophet since he supposedly received these things and it implies that he is the one to whom God has chosen to know the mystery. The words “mystery” and “mysteries” appear 26 times in the New Testament (New American Standard Version). In all cases the mystery is revealed to the believers. Only the unbelievers are left mystified, and it is no wonder, since they are unable to see the truth that is in Christ. Satan is the author of mysteries that are given to men for elevation.

The Book of Mysteries by Jonathan Cahn is written in a narrative resembling that of the Zohar. Presented as a daily devotional, The Book of Mysteries follows the one-year journey of a traveler's odyssey through deserts and secret chambers to discover "Hidden Keys" to the "Secrets of the Ages" revealed by a man known only as "the teacher." THE ABSOLUTE TRUTH: Jonathan Cahn’s nine harbingers were after-the-fact analysis or opinions of his own personal doing. They are not really prophecies. It was all an elaborate fabrication which duped millions of Christians around the world. It is a literary work based on EISEGESIS. What do I mean by that? Eisegesis involves 1) imagination: what ideas do I want to present? 2) exploration: what Scripture passage seems to fit with my ideas? and 3) application: what does my idea mean? In eisegesis there is no cross-referencing with related passages of scripture, and no real desire to understand the actual meaning of the sacred text in it's entire context as the biblical author originally intended for his readers. Scripture serves only as a prop to the interpreter’s idea. I know these things because I read the book myself. Also I was present at his Church Beth Israel as a former member and witnessed first hand the evolution of the Harbinger as a continuing series of sermons before it was finally put into print. As we had seen previously with the blood moons, many made a profit through misapplying scripture and intentionally misleading others to the meaning of what was taking place.

"But the prophet who presumes to speak a word in my name that I have not commanded him to speak, or who speaks in the name of other gods, that same prophet shall die.’ And if you say in your heart, ‘How may we know the word that the LORD has not spoken?’— when a prophet speaks in the name of the LORD, if the word does not come to pass or come true, that is a word that the LORD has not spoken; the prophet has spoken it presumptuously. You need not be afraid of him." (Deuteronomy 18:20-22)
The warning in the above scriptural passages is urgently needed for today. Some of God's people are so enamored by the supernatural that they are ready to receive anyone who demonstrates supernatural power or divine revelation knowledge as necessarily being a true servant of God. But the passages quoted above indicates that this attitude is UN SCRIPTURAL & DANGEROUS.
To get the full picture we need to combine the above two passages( Deuteronomy 13:1-5 & Deuteronomy 18: 20-22) that clearly show us how to identify a false prophet like Jonathan Cahn.
The first passage warns us against a prophet who gives us a supernatural sign that is fulfilled, but at the same time teaches disobedience or disloyalty towards God. The second passage warns that a prophet who makes some supernatural prediction that is not fulfilled is a false prophet.
By induction we arrive at the following conclusion: A TRUE PROPHET OF GOD IS ONE WHO GIVES A SUPERNATURAL SIGN OR MAKES A PREDICTION THAT IS FULFILLED, BUT WHO ALSO TEACHES LOYALTY TO GOD AND HIS WORD. JONATHAN CAHN'S HARBINGER OF THE SHEMITAH NEVER CAME TO FRUITION. THEREFORE BY BIBLICAL DEFINITION JONATHAN CAHN IS A FALSE PROPHET!
Another method the false prophets use to keep their following after the time for the prophecy has come and gone, is to say that the precise timing of the prophecy can change (even though they previously put a date on it). They say the event will still happen but of course it never does unless its fulfillment in time is obvious. If gullible people are going to believe these type of excuses then how can any prophet ever be proven false?
If a professing christian gives a supernatural sign or prophetic prediction that is not fulfilled, he/she needs to immediately take the following steps:
1)Publicly acknowledge that the sign or prediction is totally false
2) Ask forgiveness from all Christians that were deceived
3) If people who were deceived suffered loss or damages, do everything possible to make amends and restitution
AS OF THE TIME OF THIS POSTING JONATHAN CAHN HAS NOT SATISFIED THE ABOVE 3 CONDITIONS.
