IS THERE A BIBLICAL CONTRADICTION REGARDING KING JEHOIACHIN'S AGE ?

The person featured in this image is a representation of Jehoiachin, an ancient King of Judah.
The graphic focuses on a famous textual variation found within Biblical manuscripts regarding his exact age when his three-month reign over Jerusalem began:
  • 2 Kings 24:8 records his starting age as 18 years old.
  • 2 Chronicles 36:9 records his starting age as 8 years old. [1]
Most historical scholars, theologians, and textual critics resolve this apparent numerical contradiction as a scribal copyist error. In ancient Hebrew writing, numerical values were indicated by letters or small notation marks, making it remarkably easy for a single pen stroke or character to be dropped or misread when hand-copying manuscripts over centuries. [1]
Because historical details in the text indicate that Jehoiachin had wives at the time he was taken captive by Babylon, historians overwhelmingly conclude that 18 is the historically accurate age, while the "8" is an artifact of a manuscript copying error. [1]
